WHAT IS GLASS SKIN?

“Glass skin” is a popular Korean beauty trend whose main focus is on achieving dewy, glowing, glass-like skin. K-beauty experts began to discuss the glass skin trend in podcasts and on social media, quickly gaining attention in the western world, inspiring the increase in people hoping to achieve this glossy complexion. Glossy, dewy skin is now a favourite among beauty and skin influencers all around the world.

GLASS SKIN ROUTINE IN 7 STEPS

So how do you get glass skin? Not-surprisingly, to achieve the coveted glowy complexion, your skincare routine should focus on plenty of hydration, in addition to skincare practices to boost radiance and clarity. Remember, glass skin isn't the same as that greasy shine caused by oily skin. To achieve glass skin, you want to use lightweight, non-comedogenic, hydrating products that promote that don't leave your skin feeling heavy. Read on for our 6 steps for a bright, luminous complexion.

1. DOUBLE CLEANSE

The first step of the glass skincare routine is cleansing the skin of any impurities, excess oil and dead skin cells. A glass skin routine incorporates another Korean skincare trend: the double cleanse. In addition to being hydrated, glass skin needs to be clear and bright, and double cleansing ensures any impurities and pore-clogging debris are removed from the skin.

  1. The first step to double cleansing is an oil based cleanser or micellar water. Heavy makeup, sunscreens and our skin’s natural oils are all lipophilic (meaning they dissolve in lipids or oils), so an oil-based cleanser removes them more effectively. First your first cleanse, we recommend the Micellar Water Sensitive Makeup Remover
  2. Next, a gentle, hydrating, water-based cleanser to clear away impurities and dirt. Avoid cleansers with very harsh ingredients or exfoliants (unless it’s an exfoliating day). For your second cleanse, we suggest the Toleriane Caring Wash Hydrating Cleanser, that gently removes impurities without stripping away the skin moisture barrier.

2. EXFOLIATE

Exfoliating isn’t necessary for both morning and night, and too much might adversely impact your ability to get glass skin. That being said, regular exfoliating is essential for keeping pores clear and removing dead skin cells that can lead to uneven skin texture and a dull, lacklustre complexion. Depending on your skin type, swap out your regular cleanser for the Micro-Peeling Purifying Gel Cleanser once a day or every other day to prevent clogged pores that lead to blemishes and dull skin.

3. HYDRATING TONER

Once you've cleansed, it's time to start hydrating. A toner helps to balance out pH levels and sets up a smooth base to help the rest of your skincare better absorb into the skin. But avoid astringent toners as these can be too harsh, especially if you have sensitive skin. Instead, hydrate skin with a soothing toner like the Soothing Toning Lotion for Sensitive Skin.

4. LAYER ON SERUMS

The next step is to layer on serums. Serums provide high concentrations of beneficial active ingredients, formulated to target specific skin concerns. For bright, glowing skin, we recommend layering vitamin C with hyaluronic acid serums.

Vitamin C serum

Vitamin C is a popular skincare ingredient that both protects and brightens the skin. As an antioxidant, vitamin C helps neutralise harmful free radicals in the environment to prevent premature skin ageing. Its skin-brightening benefits and ability to promote collagen production helps even out skin tone and achieve that coveted glossy glow. We recommend the Vitamin C Brightening Serum for your glass skincare routine.

Hyaluronic acid serum

As we mentioned, you can't get glass skin without hydration. The next best serum to add to your glass skin routine is a thirst-quenching hyaluronic acid formula. This naturally occurring humectant helps the skin absorb and lock in moisture like a sponge. The Hyalu B5 Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a hydrating serum formulated with hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5 to help the skin absorb moisture and seal it in for all-day hydration.

5. MOISTURISER

Next, seal in moisture from your serum with a nourishing moisturiser. Look for skin-plumping moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid and other humectants. Avoid any moisturisers that promise a mattifying finish that will ruin that glossy finish you’ve worked so hard to attain. Instead, pair the Hyalu B5 serum with the Hyalu B5 Anti-Ageing Moisturiser to promote smooth, bouncy skin and enhance your dewy complexion.

6. SUN PROTECTION

Part of achieving glass skin is maintaining your skin's overall condition. Sun protection is an essential part of your morning skincare routine, plus, protecting from harmful UV rays helps prevent the formation of dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and dull skin. Finish your routine with a broad-spectrum, high SPF sunscreen like the Anthelios Invisible Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+*.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE.

Apply 20 minutes before sun exposure. Sunscreen is only one part of sun protection so wear protective clothing and seek shade. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Reapply every 2 hours, before and after swimming, towelling, and perspiring in accordance with directions.

7. HYDRATE THROUGHOUT THE DAY

The final part of your glass skincare regimen is a facial mist. If you want your glassy skin to stay throughout the day, refresh your skin with a facial mist. The Thermal Spring Water Facial Mist helps to rehydrate your skin over the course of the day.
