The story of La Roche-Posay is steeped in a rich history… did you know that La Roche-Posay is a place? Located in the Vienne region in France, this medieval town is the European capital of Hydro-Dermatology. Its thermal spa and mineral waters are celebrated worldwide, with unique properties that have been enjoyed for centuries.
La Roche-Posay legend goes back to the 14th century, with the story of Bertrand Du Guesclin and his horse. This Breton knight stopped by the mineral springs so that they could quench their thirst. According to legend, his horse returned from the water with its dry skin transformed! From that day, t he unique soothing, softening and antioxidant properties of La Roche Posay spring water were discovered.
Centuries later, this famous village continued to be recognised for the powerful properties of its mineral spring water. Pierre Milto, Director to Henry IV and Louis XIII, visited La Roche-Posay in 1617 to conduct an analysis of the springs. Years later, Napolean had a thermal hospital built there for his soldiers returning from Egypt.
