FACE MASKS

Face masks are formulated to address difference skin concerns, so have varying skin benefits. Different types of face masks offer benefits like:

• Deep cleansing: Unclog pores, removing dirt, oil, and impurities.
• Deep hydration: Replenishing moisture for softer, smoother skin.
• Brightening: Helping with discolouration, improving skin tone and radiance.
• Exfoliation: Removing dead skin cells and excess oil for a smoother texture.
• Comforting: Comforting and hydrating irritated or sensitive skin.
• Blemish-control: Reducing breakouts, helping to visibly fade existing breakouts and visibly reducing redness.

There are as many different types of face masks as there are skin concerns and skin needs!
Here’s a few of the most common types?

• Clay masks: Use clay to absorb excess oil and impurities, making them ideal for oily and blemish-prone skin.
• Sheet masks: Single-use sheets soaked in a serum to provide a potent amount of beneficial ingredients for improved absorption.
• Cream masks: Cream masks are hydrating and nourishing, ideal for dry or mature skin.
• Gel masks: Cooling and soothing, often used to reduce puffiness.
• Exfoliating masks: Remove dead skin cells for a smoother, brighter complexion.
• Peel-off masks: Usually used to remove blackheads and whiteheads.
• Sleeping masks: Overnight masks that provide more intense hydration to support the skin’s renewal process.

• Oily or blemish-prone skin: Look for purifying or exfoliating masks. Clay masks are a great option for oily skin or acne prone skin, or masks containing ingredients like charcoal or salicylic acid.
• Dry skin: Use a face mask that provides added moisture and hydration. Cream masks or sheet masks with soothing botanicals, hyaluronic acid or glycerin and restore hydration.
• Sensitive skin: Always look for masks formulated for sensitive skin. Hydrating masks and calming masks containing botanicals like aloe vera or chamomile are good for this skin type.
• Combination skin: Take advantage of multiple facial masks. A purifying clay mask is good for an oily T-zone, while a hydrating cream mask can be used for dry areas.

Most face masks can be used 1-2 times a week, depending on the formula. They’re not necessarily for daily use, but you can increase the frequency to suit your skin’s needs. Always follow instructions of your specific product.

First, cleanse your face thoroughly and pat dry. Apply mask evenly, avoiding the eye and lip area (unless directed otherwise). Leave the mask on for the recommended type; this is typically around 10-20 minutes. Remove mask as directed; rinse, peel or tissue off, then follow with the remainder of your skincare routine. To make the most out of your sheet mask, here’s a few tips:

• Apply sheet mask to clean, dry skin to ensure proper absorption.
• Smooth out any air bubbles to ensure good contact with skin.
• Don’t leave mask on any longer than the recommended time.
• After removing, massage the remaining serum into your skin.

"Face pack" is another term used for a face mask. Face packs usually have a thicker, past-like consistency.

For glowing skin, look for face masks containing antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E or green tea extract. Hydration also impacts your skin’s radiance, so choose masks with humectants like hyaluronic acid for softer, supple skin.

Face masks aren’t formulated for any specific gender, but men’s skin tends to be oilier and have more enlarged pores, so purifying, exfoliating masks are often recommended. Consider a clay mask to remove excess oil and minimise breakouts. Lightweight, hydrating sheet masks can also be good for extra nourishment without being too heavy.
