Oily Skin? Here’s Why You Should Use a Clay Mask

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mask for oily skin

If you have oily skin or are prone to acne breakouts, keeping your skincare regime as simple as possible is a wise move.

A gentle cleanser, oil-regulating treatment moisturiser and high-level, broad-spectrum SPF product are, of course, non-negotiables. However, there’s one incredibly helpful product that’s often overlooked, or used incorrectly – the face mask.

While one in five women are already using a weekly mask for acne management and prevention*, many are simply exacerbating their oiliness by over-using or utilising the wrong product. An overly harsh, drying mask can not only wreak havoc on sensitive skin, it can trigger breakouts as it causes the skin to overproduce sebum in the days following usage. But that doesn’t mean you should skip masks altogether…

NEW to La Roche-Posay’s award-winning Effaclar range is the Sebo-Controlling Mask.

A gentle, dermatologist tested purifying clay mask, it’s designed to support oily and acne-prone skins by unclogging pores, eliminating excess oil and reducing shine, without the dreaded ‘rebound effect’ of stimulating excess sebum production.

With a creamy clay texture, the Effaclar mask works in three complementary ways:

1. High-tolerance micro-clays Kaolin and Argilla instantly absorb excess oils, without irritating sensitive skin.

2. Panthenol helps prevent the sebum rebound response by soothing the inflammation response that triggers oil production. Meaning skin stays looking matte for longer.

3. Cellulobeads™ act as a magnet to draw out even pollution and other impurities.

Oily skins prone to imperfections, or any skin in need of a deep clean, may benefit from using Effaclar Sebo-Controlling Mask once or twice weekly.

After cleansing with the soap-free, pH-balanced Effaclar Foaming Cleanser, apply the mask in a fine layer to the face, avoiding the lips and eye area. Leave for five minutes, before rinsing thoroughly to remove the mask. For further anti-acne benefit, follow with Effaclar Duo Plus.
