How to Fight Photo-Ageing in 2 Steps

Retinol, Sunscreen and Repeat

Unlike chronological ageing, which is largely determined by genes, photo-ageing is a direct result of exposure to UV radiation. Photo-ageing occurs when repeated or long periods of sun exposure without adequate protection compromise the skin’s structure and accelerate the physical ageing process.

However, there is a silver lining. As photo-ageing is lifestyle-driven, it is also somewhat preventable. Read on to learn how to combat sun-induced premature ageing in two easy steps.

PREVENT WITH SUN PROTECTION

Photo-ageing presents itself in a number of ways, from premature fine lines and wrinkles, to broken blood vessels and spider veins on the nose and cheeks, freckles, age spots and pigmentation, loss of skin tone, and a more leathery complexion.

As with most things in life, prevention is better than a cure, and prevention starts with daily sun protection. Wearing a very high level, broad spectrum protection sunscreen like La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50+ Ultra Light is a must-have to help protect against photo-ageing.

The light, non-greasy fluid delivers the highest* level of broad spectrum protection against both UVA (think A for ageing) and UVB (B is for burn) rays. Specially formulated for sensitive skin prone to sun intolerance, with new-generation filtering system Mexoplex, and soothing La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. Worn daily, Anthelios XL Ultra Light helps prevent premature skin ageing, long-term skin damage, and sun-induced pigmentation.

TREAT WITH RETINOL

In the treatment of sun damage, one skincare ingredient stands above the rest: retinol. This form of Vitamin A helps to speed up skin renewal and visibly correct the signs of photo-ageing. However, not all retinol formulations are suitable for sensitive skin.

Thankfully, La Roche-Posay’s Redermic R has been developed for sensitive skin to combine the optimal efficacy of retinol with the highest level of skin tolerance. Containing a unique complex of pure (0.1%) and progressive-release (0.2%) retinol, it enhances skin texture by stimulating collagen and elastin production, and promoting cellular turnover to reduce wrinkles, regulate skintone and reduce the appearance of age spots.

Allowing a slow release of retinol through gradual skin metabolism, Redermic R truly is the retinol product for treating photo-ageing in sensitive skin. Use morning and/or night, spacing applications until your skin becomes accustomed to the product, and ALWAYS ensure you combine any retinol product with daily use of sunscreen.
